A memory typing game that trains reading ahead
Flash Recall is a memory typing game. A word or phrase flashes on screen for a moment and then disappears, and you type it from memory before pressing Enter. It trains you to take in whole words and phrases at a glance, the reading-ahead habit that lets fast typists keep their fingers moving.
Every 3 correct answers you move up a level. Phrases grow from a single word up to six words, the flash gets shorter, and less common words appear. A wrong answer costs one of your 3 lives and shows the correct phrase with your mistakes marked, so you learn from every miss. To see how reading ahead improves your speed, take a typing speed test before and after a week of play.
How Flash Recall scoring works
Points per phrase
Each correct phrase scores 10 points per character, multiplied by your level.
Speed bonus
Typing the phrase quickly after it disappears can double its points.
Streak bonus
From your fifth correct answer in a row, every phrase scores double.
Tips for a higher Flash Recall score
Read in chunks
Take in the phrase as a whole instead of letter by letter. Three words are easier to remember than fifteen letters.
Say it in your head
Silently saying the phrase once helps it stick after it disappears.
Type straight away
Start typing as soon as the phrase hides. The longer you wait, the more you forget and the smaller your speed bonus.
Check before Enter
Your answer is only checked when you press Enter, so glance over it first. A wrong answer costs a life.
Flash Recall questions
Why does memory help typing speed?
Fast typists read a few words ahead of what they are typing. Flash Recall trains you to take in whole words and phrases at a glance, so your fingers never wait for your eyes.
How is Flash Recall scored?
Each correct phrase scores points for its length and your level, with a bonus for typing it quickly. A streak of 5 or more doubles your points.
How long does the phrase stay on screen?
About 1.2 seconds for the first single words. The flash time shrinks as you level up and as phrases get longer, so later levels test how much you can read at a glance.
Do capital letters or punctuation matter?
No. Phrases use lowercase words only, separated by single spaces, so the challenge is remembering the words, not formatting them.
