Falling Words is a free online typing game where words drop from the top of the screen and you type them before they reach the danger zone. It trains two skills at once: typing speed, and choosing which word to type next, which is exactly what fast typists do when they read ahead.
The game starts slowly with short, common words, so it works well as a typing game for kids and beginners. Every 10 words you clear, the level goes up: words fall faster, appear more often and get longer, so there is always a next level to reach. When you want to measure your progress, take a typing speed test.
How Falling Words scoring works
Points per word
A cleared word scores 10 points per letter, multiplied by your level. At level 3, every word is worth three times as much as at level 1.
Streak multiplier
Clearing 5 words in a row without a wrong key adds a multiplier, rising to x4 at a streak of 15. A wrong key resets it.
Lives
You start with 5 lives, and each word that reaches the danger zone costs one. Wrong keys cost your streak, not a life.
Tips for a higher Falling Words score
Clear the lowest word first
Typing a first letter locks onto the lowest word that starts with it, so deal with the words closest to the bottom first.
Switch targets fast
Locked onto the wrong word? Press Backspace until the box is empty, or Ctrl+Backspace, to release it and pick another.
Watch for red words
Words turn red as they near the danger zone. Clear those before starting a new word, even a shorter one.
Protect your streak late
Later levels multiply every word, so a clean streak at level 5 is worth far more than a fast start.
