Code Breaker
Crack a sequence of real code snippets, typed exactly right, as quickly as you can.
How to play Code Breaker
Read the snippet
A real code snippet opens in an editor, in languages like JavaScript, Python and SQL.
Type it exactly
Every bracket, quote and semicolon counts. Mistakes are highlighted instantly.
Break the sequence
Finish all five snippets as fast as you can. Press Enter for a new line and the indentation fills in for you.
A coding typing game for programmers
Code Breaker is a typing game built for programmers. You type five real code snippets in an editor view, with line numbers and a file name, across languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++, C#, SQL and Bash. Every bracket, quote, operator and semicolon has to be exact before a snippet is cracked.
Code is full of the keys general typing tests skip: braces, parentheses, angle brackets and symbols on the Shift layer. Practicing them in real syntax builds the muscle memory that makes coding feel faster. Press Enter for a new line and the indentation fills in automatically, just like in a code editor. For longer sessions in one language, use the coding typing test.
How Code Breaker scoring works
Points per snippet
Each cracked snippet scores 4 points per character you typed plus 6 points per WPM on that snippet, multiplied by your accuracy squared.
Accuracy matters most
Because accuracy is squared, 90% accuracy keeps only 81% of the points. Clean typing beats fast, sloppy typing.
Exact match to finish
A snippet only completes when it matches exactly. Fix red characters with Backspace before you can move on.
Tips for a higher Code Breaker score
Learn the symbol reaches
Most time is lost on braces, brackets and quotes. Drill them with the punctuation typing test.
Let auto-indent work
Press Enter at the end of a line and the next line's indentation fills in, so start typing the code straight away.
Use Tab for spacing
If a line needs leading spaces, Tab types the exact indentation the snippet expects.
Read the whole line first
Glance along each line before you type it, so you know which symbols are coming.
Code Breaker questions
What does Code Breaker practice?
Symbol-heavy typing: brackets, braces, quotes, operators and punctuation. These are the keys that slow most people down when writing code.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You only need to type what you see. It is still great practice for anyone learning to program.
Which programming languages are in Code Breaker?
JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Kotlin, C++, C#, HTML, CSS, SQL, JSON and Bash. Each game picks five snippets, from different languages where possible.
How many snippets are in a game?
Five. Your results show the snippets you completed, your WPM, accuracy and total time, and your best score is saved on your device.
