Data Dash
Race through realistic data entry records: names, emails, IDs and prices.
How to play Data Dash
Get a record
A realistic record appears: a name, an email address, an ID or an amount.
Enter it cleanly
Type the record exactly. Accuracy matters as much as it does at work.
Dash to the finish
Clear all eight records as fast as you can and beat your best WPM.
A data entry typing game for job test practice
Data Dash is a data entry typing game. You enter eight customer records, each combining fields such as a name, email address, phone number, customer ID, invoice number and amount, typed exactly as shown. It is realistic practice for the mix of letters, numbers and symbols in real data entry work.
Data entry job tests usually care about accuracy as much as speed, and so does Data Dash: a record only saves when it matches exactly. Each field is labelled, the current field is highlighted, and saved records appear in a log with their own WPM and accuracy. For a timed test in the same format, try the data entry typing test.
How Data Dash scoring works
Points per record
Each saved record scores 4 points per character you typed plus 6 points per WPM on that record, multiplied by your accuracy squared.
Accuracy is squared
At 95% accuracy you keep about 90% of the points, and at 80% only 64%. Careful typing is rewarded, just like in real job tests.
Your results
At the end you see records saved, WPM, accuracy and total time, and your best score is saved on your device.
Tips for a higher Data Dash score
Two spaces between fields
Fields are separated by two spaces. Missing one is the most common mistake.
Watch email and ID formats
Dots in emails, dashes in customer IDs and the INV- prefix on invoice numbers all have to match exactly.
Currency and commas count
Amounts include the currency sign and thousands separators, such as €6,351.75. Type every character.
Check the field label
The label above each field tells you what comes next, so you can get ready for numbers or symbols.
Data Dash questions
Is Data Dash good preparation for a data entry test?
Yes. It uses the same kind of mixed letters, numbers and symbols found in real data entry tests. Pair it with the data entry typing test for full practice.
What is a good score in Data Dash?
Aim to finish with at least 95% accuracy first. Once that is steady, work on your time.
What fields are in each record?
Each record combines three fields from names, email addresses, phone numbers, customer IDs, invoice numbers and amounts, separated by two spaces.
What typing speed do data entry jobs need?
Many data entry roles ask for around 40 WPM or more with high accuracy, and some measure keystrokes per hour instead. Requirements vary by employer, so check the job listing.
