What Check My WPM is
Check My WPM is a free online typing speed test. It shows your words per minute (WPM), accuracy and consistency live as you type, then gives you a full breakdown with a speed graph when you finish.
Around the test we built practice modes for specific kinds of typing, from English and numbers to code, data entry, punctuation and business writing, plus typing games that run on the same engine, so every round still trains real speed and accuracy.
Why we built it
Most typing tests measure how fast you type common words. Real typing is different: a developer types brackets, an accountant types prices and dates, and an office worker types emails full of names and times. We wanted one place where you can practice the exact kind of text you type every day, and see honest numbers while you do it.
What we care about
- Honest numbers. Net WPM counts correct characters only, and accuracy counts every keystroke, including the ones you fixed. You can read exactly how it works in our disclaimer.
- Privacy by default. There are no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your results and settings are stored in your own browser and never sent to us. See our privacy policy.

How WPM is calculated
We use the standard definition: one "word" is five characters. Net WPM is correct characters divided by five, divided by the minutes you typed. Raw WPM counts every character you typed, right or wrong. Accuracy is the share of keystrokes that were correct.
